Peggy needs your help. She fears someone may have Lance.
Peggy's own words...
"Our biggest problem was that Lance and I had a riding accident in the woods, so in the beginning we primarily focused on that area, scouring every acre of the park on foot, horseback and even in helicopters/planes.  It seemed most probable at that time that he was indeed tied up someplace in the woods...but I didn't go up in the helicopter until the tuesday after the accident occurred (it occurred on saturday) and when I could see so clearly into the area and that there was no trace of him (we could see geese sitting on their nests...that's how much we could see from the air) I then realized he was with a person.  We then thought that he had wandered onto somebody's property and they just didn't know who to contact....but in retrospect that was improbable because he had on full tack.  Seems as though an honest person would have called the police at the very least....
So now two weeks after he came up missing, I am now convinced he was stolen.  And he is probably long gone as we have had newspaper, radio, and television coverage on the story...not to mention a tremendous amount of horse lovers helping us search and posting flyers."

LANCE IS HOME!
Subj: Lance is HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Date: 5/8/2002 10:33:39 AM Eastern Standard Time
To: IdahoNC@aol.com

I apologize about the lack of individual addressing, but I will talk to each of you more in depth, I promise!!! I am just so excited and happy to have him home.
He is beat up and lost a great deal of weight, he wandered up to a local house today around 4pm.  It really does appear to me that he was in the woods during that time.  As amazing as that is...that no one had seen him.  He was extremely frightened and shy and wouldn't even come to me until after a good deal of coaxing, like he was in shock...so I guess it is possible that he thwarted any rescue attempts by fleeing whenever anyone got close ... or maybe more likely he was stuck someplace where nobody could see ...or....who knows where he was...we probably will never know.

He wandered past a young girl's house who called her neighbor who then got one of his horses to lead lance into the pasture.  He still had his saddle on upside down and underneath his lower back but had broken free from his bridle and has some pretty nasty flesh wounds on his lips.

He loaded up onto the trailer with no problems....like a pro!  And when he got home he got a spring in his step, he was very happy to be home....and with no time at all he was back to his old self .... begging for lovins and treats hanging his head out of his stall...posing for the cameras and directing the (at one point) 5 pairs of hands to scratch him in his favorite spots.

A vet came out, but there are still some things I'm concerned about....his chest is swollen, he has nasty wounds on his lips and he was running a bit of a temp....so his normal vet is coming out tomorrow too....

There will be a big appreciation party at the barn for everyone who helped with the search and cared.  It should be on the 25th....details to come later...

Will write more later.....thank you so much for everyone's concern and caring!!!!!

Peggy

       Missing horse finally found

As the days turned into one week and then a second week, Pinckney resident Peggy Beesley began to lose hope of ever finding her missing horse, Lance.

Then Beesley received a telephone call at work 4:30 p.m. Tuesday with incredible news. Lance had been found.

"I couldn't drive fast enough," Beesley said. "I thought I would get pulled over for speeding."

It was a pretty happy moment when peggy Beesley of pinckney was reunited with her horse Lance Tuesday evening. Beesley was riding lance april 20 during a competitive trail ride in the Brighton Recreation Area when he became spooked and ran forward into another horse, knocking Beesley to the ground. The horse apparently roamed free in the state park woods for two weeks as Beesley did everything she could do to find him, including searching the area by airplane and helicopter.

Beesley raced to a Hamburg Township home where she was reunited with Lance, who was found by two Pinckney High School students less than a mile away from where he ran off into the woods at Brighton State Recreation Area on April 20. Lance was found still wearing his saddle, which had fallen around his belly, and his bridle still on his head.

Although he lost over 100 pounds and had numerous cuts, Beesley said Lance appeared to be okay.

"I'm grateful for everything," said Beesley, standing next to Lance in his stall at His Royal Equestrian Center in Pinckney. Her love for the was obvious by how she kept patting his neck and placing her head against him.

"I'm just happy to have him back," she said.

Beesley was riding Lance April 20 during a competitive trail ride in the state park when he became spooked and ran forward into another horse, knocking Beesley to the ground. For over two weeks, Lance apparently roamed free in the state park woods.

It seemed Beesley and a group of friends had done everything to find Lance. They searched the area using airplanes and helicopters. They called every veterinarian in Livingston County, walked every inch of the park and even posted Lance's photos on several Web sites for missing horses. Beesley traveled to horse auctions in Michigan and out-of-state, hoping she might come across Lance. Several times, she grew excited when people mentioned they had a lead on a light-brown horse which might be Lance. But after checking, each lead turned up empty.

"I was really losing hope," Beesley said.

Last Thursday, Beesley went up in a helicopter for a second time to search the state park. When they landed, she threw up.

Chelsea Woodruff, a 9th grader at Pinckney High School, was sitting inside her home on Richardson Road in Hamburg Township Tuesday afternoon when she spotted a loose horse walk by. Woodruff told her neighbor friend, Jeremy Merritt, who is also a 9th grader at Pinckney High School.

Merritt said his father told him to get his female horse, Montana, and walk her down to where Lance was. Merritt said Lance, a male horse, became acquainted with Montana and then followed her into a gated pasture.

"This is sort of cool," Merritt said when he realized the horse they had found was the one missing for two weeks. He said a lot of people began to show up at the home after they made a few telephone calls.

Beesley was joined by numerous friends at His Royal Equestrian Center while she stood by Lance and waited for his veterinarian to arrive and perform a health check.

Elaine Kuehnl, owner of His Royal Equestrian Center, was responsible for feeding Lance and 20 others horses she boards. When she approached each horse with grain at 7 a.m. everyday, she said they had their own unique greeting.

"Every horse has their own special whinny in the morning," Kuehnl said.

       "I missed Lance's."

Kuehnl said they're planning on having a party in a couple weeks to thank everyone who helped search for Lance.
