After missing three weeks JB is home!
STACY'S STORY
BY
STACEY ONEY

Hi Everyone,
Yes, JB came home early Friday morning(at 5:30am to be exact!) Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to everyone, but I was sooo tired Friday, and then Saturday morn. I had to clean house for my daughters birthday party in the afternoon. I have been very busy! Well, if you've got a minute, I'd like to tell you how it all went down! At approx. 3:20pm on Thurs. I got a call from a long time friend, Gladys Rogers. She told me she thinks she has a lead on my horse. She
had been down at Tulsa for the Drysdales Super Show, and took a bunch of flyers with her. She was handing them out, and gave one to the right person! This lady informed Gladys that she had seen James and Stephanie Bray(James broke a filly for me when he lived up here, and I even hauled him to some jackpots because the tires on his trailer were no good) competing on JB since Aug. 21.(they stole him on Aug. 20!) The first jackpot they went to was in Chikota, OK. When she saw them make such a nice run, she approched them and
asked James where he got such a nice horse. He told her the
horse came from Texas. She asked how he was bred, and he
told her the horse didnt have papers. She asked, " Are you sure he's not hot?" Of course James replied, " No". Well, after I got off the phone w/
Gladys, I called the sheriffs dept. in Cass County, told them that
my horse was down in Oklahoma, and they put me on hold,
picked up, put me on hold again, a different guy picked up, put
me on hold again. I said to myself, " This is Bullshit!". I called information
and got the Haskell County Sheriff. At first when I explained what was going on, they told me they might not be able to get to
James' house today. I said, "No. You guys are going to have
to go NOW, or I may never see my horse again!" He asked
me to fax a flyer to him. As I was faxing the flyer, they recieved another call from a man who had seen James that afternoon
practicing MY horse in his relatives arena. So they pretty much knew then that James probably had JB. As soon as they got the flyer, they headed to the Bray residence. James was on the
phone with a girl(who I just recently spoke with and found out she was on the phone with him when the sheriff showed up!),
bragging about this nice horse he got for Stephanie to run. He
told her that Stephanie had gone out and bought a new
aluminum trailer to start hauling JB to rodeos. He told her that
they had been to several jackpots and rodeos, getting a first at
one, two seconds, one third, one fourth, hit a barrel at one, went wide to the first at another(told Stephanie she was so wide you could have pulled a Mack truck between her and the barrel), and
just got outrun at another. Told her thatthey were going to give the horse about a 2 week break, then head to Ardmore, OK for the big 4D barrel race. Then the dogs started barking and James said, "I
gotta go. I got company. I'll call you later." He went out and met Sheriff Bullard and a deputy. They had a flyer and asked James if he had ever seen this horse, this brand, or if he had ever heard of Stacy Oney. He answered "No" to every question. He proceeded to take them thru the barn and show off all his horses in a very composed manner. The sheriff did not see JB in there and got in his car and proceeded to roll the window up. The window was about 3 inches from being all the way up when he heard a horse whinny from
another building James neglected to take them too. He went to the house, and asked James to take him to thatother building. There stood JB! They slapped the cuffs on him, and off to jail Mr. Bray went! The sheriff took JB to his house, and kept him there till we got
there. Now, JB is back home enjoying his well deserved retirement that I had intended to give him. I want to thank EVERYONE for all their help, concern, and support they gave me. Thanks so much to Penny Mitchell and Tim Pipkins, for being able to identify my horse,
even though ole James had tried to disguise him(bleached blaze on his face, darkened his coat about 4 shades, put black hair dye in mane, tail, and legs, and splatered bleach all over his rump-a pitiful
job of trying to make JB look like an appaloosa). Thank you Gladys for working so hard to pass out those flyers that got this piece of trash caught! Thanks to everyone else that posted flyers all over the U.S.! JB really appreciates it. I have taken some pictures of this sorry looking disguise and will send them out as soon as I get them developed. He even defaced my brand by coloring over it, which is a felony in BOTH Missouri and Oklahoma, punishable of up to 5 years in the slammer! Lets all come together and make this guy someone other prospecting thieves do not want to be. We all have horses and this could happen to anyone! We were asleep with the windows open, and did not even hear these creeps out in our pasture. Keep in touch everyone!
Sincere thanks from the bottom of our hearts,
Marvin, Stacy and Baylee Oney

How much will someone change the looks of a horse? Look below.

Here is my commentary. More later from the owner.
There are all kinds of ways to identify your horse with only a few visible.  If you have ever wondered, "Should I brand or shouldn't I brand", think of this story. .What lengths will someone go to conceal a horse?
It was a long afternoon of waiting and hoping but Stacey's hopes finally came true.  The phone rang and the officer on the other end of the phone said, "I have your horse."
For three weeks Stacey worked night and day to find her horse.  She worked with the                      many volunteers on the Internet as well as friends new and old in distribution of information about her missing horse, JB.

JB was in Kinta, Oklahoma and was being ridden in barrel horse races.  A flyer that was                   put into the hands of a lady at a Tulsa event recognized him right away as the horse she                   had seen someone with earlier.  She had wondered how they came to own such a                            wonderful horse when they had not been able to do so in the past.  Now she knew the rest                of the story.

The police were called and dispatched to the man's home.  A search of the property was completed but did not turn up the horse.  As the deputy rolled up his window he heard a  whinny off in another direction from where he had been taken to survey the horses on the property.  It seemed there was one place the owner had not taken him.  If he had rolled up is window 3 seconds earlier he would not have heard the cry of the horse.  He searched the other building and right away spotted the brand on JB's hindquarter.

Stacey and her husband, once notified that JB was in protective custody took off into the                  night to claim their horse.  When they arrived a photo of the JB was shown to the deputy                   and the deputy's face went pale.  "That is not the horse I have." He told Stacy.  "The horse I have has a white blaze".  Shocked but not daunted by this discovery Stacey told the officer it must be her horse since the brand was there.  The officer took them to the horse. They were shocked by what they saw.

The once sorrel gelding with only a star on his forehead now had a full white blaze, white                   spots on his rump and his mane, tail and legs had been darkened.  There was an                             unsuccessful attempt to alter the brand with dye and a razor.  The cactus was a little                        hidden but the diamond was still there.

JB, Stacy and her husband Marvin are all home now and left to sort out the legal issues concerning the alleged thief.  Hopefully Missouri laws will be more dreadful than some other laws are and the man will be made to pay for his crime.  (Read the story on Penny and how the thief got away thanks to the justice system)

In the end, the brand identified JB even though his appearance had changed.  Do you have the answer to that question about branding now?
