The paddock gate that leads out to the pasture was standing open and the chain wrapped around it in a way the owner would not have. The gate was closed to keep them off the pasture because of all the rain we've had. One fence on the perimeter of the property was cut --definetly not pushed down but a clean cut. The owner found the bit and reins of his bridle--no headstall--on a further fence. Verified it was theirs. Western synthetic saddle was also missing from the tack room in the barn. Followed the trail across neighboring property where a gate was down. Found some of Zack's tail hair on the gate. Found a blue t-shirt on the trail with Zack's hair on it, too. Neighbors heard a horse whinnying around 3:00. Both he and his stable mate would have whinnied for each other if separated. The stable mate is here. His owner, Brenda, is heartsick, just heartsick. He was a pet to her--seldom ridden, though broke, but a big pet. The photos show his build well--very stocky. His face is whiter now with the blaze not as visible. He has been at this ranch before and had been away for 6 months in training. I put him in the pasture and he hasn't been seen since. There are 7 other horses in the same field. They are all there. We have searched the 70 acres on foot, on horses, and on a quad-runner. No sign of him. In the past when horses have died up there the coyotes always let you know and no one has heard anything unusual. We aren't sure if he somehow got out, and if so why he'd leave the other horses. The area is difficult to cover because of deep ravines, but we feel confident he is not there. We could find no trace of him, or evidence of a horse having fallen through the brush. Now all we can think is that he either was stolen, or got out, and was found. He has not been returned and if someone did find him they haven't spoken up. The paddock gate that leads out to the pasture was standing open and the chain wrapped around it in a way the owner would not have. The gate was closed to keep them off the pasture because of all the rain we've had. One fence on the perimeter of the property was cut --definetly not pushed down but a clean cut. The owner found the bit and reins of his bridle--no headstall--on a further fence. Verified it was theirs. Western synthetic saddle was also missing from the tack room in the barn. Followed the trail across neighboring property where a gate was down. Found some of Zack's tail hair on the gate. Found a blue t-shirt on the trail with Zack's hair on it, too. Neighbors heard a horse whinnying around 3:00. Both he and his stable mate would have whinnied for each other if separated. The stable mate is here. His owner, Brenda, is heartsick, just heartsick. He was a pet to her--seldom ridden, though broke, but a big pet. The photos show his build well--very stocky. His face is whiter now with the blaze not as visible. He has been at this ranch before and had been away for 6 months in training. I put him in the pasture and he hasn't been seen since. There are 7 other horses in the same field. They are all there. We have searched the 70 acres on foot, on horses, and on a quad-runner. No sign of him. In the past when horses have died up there the coyotes always let you know and no one has heard anything unusual. We aren't sure if he somehow got out, and if so why he'd leave the other horses. The area is difficult to cover because of deep ravines, but we feel confident he is not there. We could find no trace of him, or evidence of a horse having fallen through the brush. Now all we can think is that he either was stolen, or got out, and was found. He has not been returned and if someone did find him they haven't spoken up.
